Dear Star Jones
More than you'd ever know your comment
on honesty regarding herpes settles well among the herpes community. We all
thank you for seeing beyond this disease. We are people too, and deserve as
much as the next person.
Between all five of you on The
View, one of you (AT LEAST!) should begin focusing on changing the stigma
attached to herpes in this day and age. Joy is apparently one of the many who
refuse to learn the facts and realize how common this disease is among adults
today. Here's a quote that couldn't say it better: "Herpes is often
transmitted by people who do not know they are infected, or by people who
simply don't recognize that their herpes infection is in its active phase."
Many people don't recognize symptoms at all. Many people don't know that a
person who gets cold sores can transmit that to their partners genitals
through oral sex, even if there are no symptoms! Many people do not know
having a cold sore means you are POSITIVE for HSV! The list goes on!
I want to commend you on seeing beyond the topic of herpes as
the "deal-breaker" and hope you will take this opportunity to educate adults
on the truth about herpes!
Please realize the potential in
this! General STD screening does not even include a herpes test! Did you know
that? Many people believe that herpes is included with STD screening. Well,
they are right in thinking that it should be, but it isn't! Could we take this
opportunity to try and change that?
With the power to
reach millions through daytime television, I would hope that something as
important as Joy's error will be corrected.
Thank you again
for this opportunity and I hope something is done about it!
Sarah
