Dear Barbara Walters
I am a 24 year old college student, and I
have been a fan of yours since I was a little girl. I grew up watching
20 20 every week while my friends watched sitcoms and cartoons. I have
always loved the way you conduct interviews and report stories. I have
always thought that you really stand apart from the rest. You have
shown such a sense of compassion and caring.
I want you to know that I am sickened by
the episode of The View that aired around Valentines Day of this year. How dare Ms. Behar sit there on her high horse and belittle someone for
having a disease or an Illness! Would she do the same for a cancer
patient, or someone diagnosed with HIV? I doubt it! What makes Herpes so different? The
numbers of people affected by this virus are astonishing! The number is
so great that I am sure that someone close to Ms. Behar (a family member
or friend), someone close to you (and this could apply to anyone in the
world), is affected by Herpes.
The sad thing about it is that Ms. Behar, (or you or anyone) may never
know or be there to support that person, because that person is
too ashamed to tell anyone! Ashamed, to look to those they love for
help and support?! And why? Why would someone suffer through this
alone? Why would someone be ashamed and disgusted with themselves for
having contracted a virus? It is because of things like what happened on
your show this Valentines Day eve.
Ms. Behar heartlessly poked fun at people
who were NOT ashamed, and trying to be open about their disease! Like
she has no dirty laundry?! I can think of a few deal breakers of my
own, starting with heartlessness! I can think of a few others, too,
which I will keep to myself.
I know you are a producer on The View,
and I cannot believe that you allowed this to air! Where are your
scruples?
Sincerely Yours,
Melissa
