Hello, my name is Dave, although all my Herpes friends know me as Ohio Dave. I currently reside in Worthington, OH which is a suburb of Columbus. I have had herpes for over 11 years, having acquired it from a girlfriend whom I later married. For over 10 years I kept my condition to myself (only my wife knew, since she gave it to me). I was ashamed, resentful and felt marked for life (much like the scarlet A in the novel Scarlet Letter). To be truthful, herpes played a role in my decision on whom I married, sad, but true. We had 3 beautiful and h-free daughters during the time we were married. We are currently separated and in the process of divorcing.

Just over a year ago, I found an online community dedicated to people with herpes. While I had seen the statistics (1 in 4 have herpes), I had never met anyone until then. Not too long after wards, I went to my first Herpes Gathering (event to meet others) and soon become actively involved in the local Columbus group. I currently host a weekly social gathering here in Columbus, where people with herpes can meet, talk, share our concerns and just plain have fun. Having been through every stage of the process since acquiring herpes, there is nothing I'd rather do, than help others through it as well.
