My interest in helping
others is something I simply like to do. I have a
sense of compassion and empathy for what another may
be feeling and so, if they're suffering, I want to
help try to alleviate their pain and specifically
with herpes since I've had it for awhile. I
remember when I got herpes - I'd never even heard of
it! I felt like a leper. It would've been so
helpful to have had such easy access on the net to
others with information and compassion with whom to
talk. I was fortunate to find a herpes support group
in
the town I lived at the time, though. (There is no
such group here, Melbourne, Florida)
I think I can
offer a shoulder to cry on, along with information
and advice from a standpoint of "living with it
myself." I hope to be able to help others realize
they are not alone, there is help in the form of
medication and they don't have to become recluses.
I've gone on to other herpes message boards many times to
find information and end up giving advice out on
different subjects, also. I do try to
maintain sensitivity when "advising" and to not be
judgmental but encouraging so as to make those in
need feel they are not alone in this herpes
dilemma.
I am blown away by the stats on how many
people have herpes, by the way.
And to think so many don't know it is scary. I've been hearing that the
young teens are now engaging in oral sex because they think it's safer. I
bet most of them have no clue that Herpes type 1
is
contagious in a dangerous way. :: sigh :: -
