ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL - Have you tried it yet?

I have had HSV-1 since I was 6 years old.  Since my teens, I have tried numerous OTC solutions. This is effective, albeit painful, at shortening the span of an open lesion.  It dries the infected area rapidly, which is a plus.  However, it will leave a bad scar in most instances.  I have found that teaming it with antibiotic ointment lessens the size of the scar and also helps alleviate the amount of drying, cracking and bleeding.  I also mix in a dab of toothache ointment (Orajel) to help with the pain. Thanks for all the information!

I have been doing a lot of reading lately and have noticed that people have been encouraged NOT to use alcohol on your herpes outbreaks because it will sting and hurt. I don't know about you but I would prefer not to be in too much pain when having a herpes outbreak. The other reason why people are told to avoid some of the OTC stuff out there (including alcohol) is because these things may actually make the situation worse than had you done nothing about your outbreak at all.
