Abreva Comments and Feedback

Abreva is a herpes product that people are finding over the counter or ordering online in an attempt to treat herpes. If you have tried Abreva please share your positive or negative experiences for posting on this feedback page. Send me your comments and feedback along with your blessing to post on the site.    ABREVA - Have you tried it?

Chap Stick makes a lip balm containing petroleum ingredients and is said to work just as well or better than Abreva.  Also Abreva is very expensive, it sells for about $16 for 4 oz. - W

Hi! I am on my 3 tube of Abreva! I Love it! Another thing that it will do... I have genital herpes also, when I start feeling a break out coming, I put abreva on it and guess what? NO OUTBREAK! It is great. I think that the people that say that it doesn't work are maybe not putting it on enough. I have a small cold sore now. I know that it is alot better than it would have been without it. - L

I believe that Abreva helps me. It definitely stops the stinging/tingling a little sooner, I am not sure that it promotes healing. I just know that within 3 hours of applying it to an oral or genital lesion, the area begins to feel better. I do this with my Gyn's blessing, she has just told me not to use it internally. I do not know if it is the placebo effect or it really helps me, but it appears to really help me. For that reason, I will continue using it. - L

I used Abreva for my recent cold sore outbreak and am convinced that it spread it and made it worse this time.  I actually ended up with two different clusters of blisters on my lip rather than one, and one was more or less on my chin below my lip (and I have never gotten one there before). I must say, however, that years back I used Abreva and it seemed to work like a charm.  I think part of it may have to do with the timing of it.  If you put it on at the first sign (which almost means you need to have a tube always with you) then it works great, at least it did for me. - Anon

The results were ok not great but ok, what really upset me was that every time I went to use it a lot would come out of the tube and it would go to waste. About 80% was wasted because it would just come out I would tried to close the tube really fast but it would not work. So the money was not worth paying for it. Very annoyed by that - V

Not only did the Abreva not work for me - it made my situation worse. I saw better results when I stopped using it! - P

I used the Abreva for three days and it made my lips worse. I was hoping that it would work great because it cost so much! I wonder what kind of studies were done to make such great claims about it. I am going to try and return it. I am not satisfied with it. Thank you for your interest. - P

I used Abreva for 5 days and the results were not good. I am very disappointed in Abreva. I didn't mind spending the money for it, very costly, but with no results. I feel it was money wasted. I have now used another product and with just two applications I am getting results from the other product.

A coworker recommended Abreva and it's good. In three days my cold sore was a memory. If I had used it as soon as I felt the tingling the blisters would probably have never appeared. I haven't had another cold sore to test this on. (and I'm not complaining) The little tube (and I do mean little) costs about $15 but you can find it on sale for around $10. Hope this helps! - M

Abreva seems to make my cold sores WORSE.  I have used lip balms with L Lysine in them that seem far more effective. - M
